Technical Field Engineer

Location: Bristol and surrounding areas
Hours: Fulltime, Permanent
Must have a valid UK driving licence and be comfortable with working long hours, away from home
Salary: £30,000 – £40,000 per annum

Our client is looking for an Engineer to join their team. As an Engineer you will be responsible for deploying and supporting temporary networks and POS/payment systems at events. This role requires strong communication and problem-solving skills, experience in the events industry, and the ability to lead and manage event teams effectively.

Key Responsibilities of a Technical Field Engineer

  • Execute technical setups for events while adhering to Event Pack and budget guidelines.
  • Install EPOS/PDQ systems in temporary locations and provide training for both internal and external users.
  • Ensure all deployed solutions are PCI compliant and thoroughly tested before the event.
  • Provide on-site technical support to quickly diagnose and resolve any issues that arise.
  • Install both fiber and copper cabling and deploy Wi-Fi connectivity as required.
  • Oversee the breakdown and secure storage of equipment following the event.
  • Maintain all tools and equipment in an organised manner, ensuring compliance with Health & Safety standards.
  • Communicate clearly with clients and end-users about system performance.
  • Monitor and report on system performance during events to ensure optimal operation.
  • Promptly escalate technical and operational issues to your line manager.
  • Perform workshop-based equipment maintenance during periods when no events are taking place.
  • Consider and implement sustainable solutions to reduce environmental impact.

Key Skills of a Technical Field Engineer

  • Knowledge of deploying and managing wired and Wi-Fi networks, with experience in Layer 2, CAT-5 cabling, crimping, fibre, PoE, and IP networking would be desirable.
  • Strong technical problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent planning, time management, and the ability to meet challenging deadlines.
  • Must be comfortable with working long hours, away from home
  • Experience in the events industry, with a solid understanding of site-based work and safe practices.
  • Flexibility to work unsociable hours, including weekends and long days.
  • Full UK driving license (no more than 6 points).
  • Understanding of PSTN, VoIP, and cross-platform integration would be desirable.
