Purchasing Supervisor
Location: Stroud
Hours: Monday to Thursday, 8.00am – 4.30pm; Friday, 8.00am – 1.30pm
Salary: £35,000 – £40,000 per annum

Job Purpose

The Purchasing Supervisor will oversee and coordinate the daily operations of the purchasing team. The role involves managing supplier relationships, implementing KPIs, and drafting supply agreements. The successful candidate will also provide support and cover for various roles within the purchasing team, ensuring smooth operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise the purchasing team, overseeing daily activities, scheduling, and approving holidays, absenteeism, RTWs, overtime, and timekeeping.
  • Manage supplier relationships, negotiate contracts, and ensure timely delivery of goods while maintaining cost-effectiveness.
  • Oversee the preparation, processing, and authorisation of purchase orders, ensuring alignment with RFQs for price, delivery, and quality requirements.
  • Maintain the supplier database, vendor records, and related documentation, ensuring compliance with quality and legal standards.
  • Compile monthly vendor performance reports, analysing delivery and quality metrics.
  • Identify and implement improvements to purchasing systems and processes.
  • Collaborate with the Materials Manager and Sales team to analyse sales forecasts and inventory levels to inform procurement strategies.
  • Monitor and resolve vendor-related rejection notes and NCRs, ensuring timely closure and recovery of scrap/rework costs.
  • Arrange and coordinate supplier visits and development meetings.
  • Provide cover for other roles within the purchasing team as needed.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel and Word).
  • Demonstrated experience with planning tools, ERP/MRP, and vendor management systems.
  • Supervisory experience with a proven track record in a purchasing role.
  • Background in manufacturing or engineering environments.
  • Strong interpersonal skills 
  • Critical thinking, negotiation, and decision-making skills.
  • Planning, organisation, and time management skills.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement and process development.
  • Confidentiality, professionalism, and independence in decision-making.

Qualifications

  • Minimum GCSEs at grades A*-C (4-9) in Maths and English, or an equivalent NVQ Level 2 qualification.
  • Membership in CIPS (Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply) is highly desirable.
