Operations Engineer – Machining and Maintenance

Salary: £38,000–£42,000 per annum + 5% LIP

Location: Stonehouse, Gloucestershire

Working hours: Monday to Thursday, 7:30am–4:30pm; Friday, 7:30am–12:30pm.

We are seeking an Operations Engineer – Machining and Maintenance to support manufacturing through precision engineering, machining, tooling and maintenance. You will design, manufacture, maintain and improve production equipment, jigs, fixtures and tooling to help keep production reliable and efficient. You will join a close-knit team of four colleagues and one apprentice.

Key responsibilities

  • Support daily production through precision engineering, machining and maintenance.
  • Design and manufacture components for production jigs, fixtures, tooling and equipment.
  • Carry out precision machining and high-tolerance engineering work to meet production and quality requirements.
  • Perform preventative and responsive maintenance on production equipment, jigs, fixtures and tooling.
  • Develop and maintain preventative maintenance schedules in line with ISO 13485 requirements.
  • Diagnose equipment and tooling faults and carry out repairs to minimise production downtime.
  • Ensure work meets required quality, safety and performance standards and maintain a clean, safe working environment.
  • Support the Line Manager in achieving daily production targets and longer-term operational objectives.
  • Follow the Quality Management System, report quality issues and maintain accurate records in line with relevant standards and documentation practices.
  • Work with Production, Engineering, Quality and other teams to resolve technical and operational issues.
  • Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, tooling performance, production efficiency and working practices.

Skills and experience

  • Hands-on experience in a manufacturing or engineering workshop, such as a mould shop, tool room or precision engineering facility.
  • Experience with low-volume, prototype, research and development, or customised production projects.
  • Machining experience and the ability to produce components to tight tolerances.
  • Practical knowledge of production equipment and experience carrying out equipment maintenance.
  • Experience manufacturing, repairing and maintaining jigs, fixtures, tooling or similar production aids.
  • Understanding of preventative maintenance principles and maintenance documentation.
  • Awareness of quality and regulatory requirements, ideally including ISO 9001, ISO 13485, IVD regulations and Good Documentation Practices.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Excellent organisation, attention to detail and IT skills, including maintaining accurate records.
  • A proactive, flexible and solutions-focused approach to supporting production requirements.
