Location: Worcester
Hours: 36.75 hours, Monday – Thursday 8am – 4.30pm Friday 8am-12.45pm 
Salary: £40,000 per annum

Key Responsibilities of a Mechanical Design Engineer

Product Design & Development

  • Contribute to the design, development, and testing of mechanical components and assemblies.

  • Collaborate with project teams to ensure designs meet customer specifications and regulatory requirements.

  • Produce and maintain technical documentation, including specifications, drawings, operation manuals, and build/test procedures.

  • Manage components and bills of materials within internal systems.

Product Maintenance

  • Refine existing product designs to improve performance, durability, and manufacturability.

  • Develop solutions for component and system faults throughout the product lifecycle.

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date technical documentation.

Application Engineering

  • Design mechanical solutions tailored to customer needs, ensuring designs meet functional and performance requirements.

Sales, Manufacturing, Commissioning & Customer Support

  • Work with the sales team to provide timely responses to customer queries.

  • Support technical aspects of proposals, production builds, installations, and commissioning.

  • Provide guidance during installations to ensure customer satisfaction.

Professional Development & Collaboration

  • Maintain and expand professional and technical knowledge through training, research, and professional networks.

  • Stay updated on industry trends, technologies, and engineering advancements.

  • Collaborate with engineering colleagues and cross-functional teams to ensure successful project delivery.

  • Communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Key Skills of a Mechanical Design Engineer

  • HNC/HND or degree in mechanical engineering.

  • Preferably 5 years’ experience in mechanical design engineering.

  • Experience with PLM, FEA, and CFD tools.

  • Hands-on experience with CAM/CAE tools.

  • Proficiency in SolidWorks CAD software for modelling, drawings, and analysis.

  • Familiarity with engineering analysis tools and mathematical computing software (ANSYS, Matlab, Excel, LabView, etc.).

  • Strong understanding of mechanics, kinematics, thermodynamics, and materials science.

  • Creativity, analytical skills, and technical writing abilities.

  • Manufacturing experience is advantageous.

Essential Criteria

  • Experience designing water brake dynamometers, or alternatively, experience with high-speed rotating components up to 25,000 rpm.

  • Active use of SolidWorks in current or recent employment.
