Laboratory Manager 6593

Location: Tewkesbury

Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday–Friday (with flexibility for urgent operational needs)

Salary: £36,637.20 per annum

 


 

Key Responsibilities of a Laboratory Manager

  • Ensure product safety, quality and compliance across all testing (raw materials, in-process, finished product, shelf life).
  • Plan and oversee testing schedules, ensuring correct methods are followed and results are accurately recorded, monitored and trended.
  • Manage and develop Laboratory Technicians and Team Leader, fostering a collaborative, high-performance culture.
  • Maintain audit readiness; prepare for and support BRCGS accreditation audits.
  • Oversee laboratory equipment maintenance, calibration, validation and servicing.
  • Coordinate external laboratory analysis and provide Certificates of Conformance to customers.
  • Manage non-conformance investigations in conjunction with Technical and Production.
  • Champion HACCP, Food Safety Management Systems, COSHH and robust laboratory procedures.
  • Lead KPI reporting, root-cause analysis, corrective actions and continuous improvement.
  • Deliver sensory panel training and maintain hygiene, housekeeping and safety standards.

Key Skills of a Laboratory Manager

  • Strong people leadership with excellent communication, coaching and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience coordinating teams in a laboratory environment.
  • Working knowledge of BRCGS Food Safety, HACCP, CCP validation, microbiological safety and QMS.
  • Hands-on laboratory experience in food science, microbiology or biology.
  • Attention to detail in reporting and SOP writing.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and data analysis.

Desirable:

  • HNC/Degree in a science-related subject (Food Microbiology/Chemistry).
  • Knowledge of dairy industry and laboratory accreditation standards.
