HGV Workshop Mechanic
Location: Quedgeley
Hours: Basic working week of 37 hours (opportunity to achieve overtime). Shift Pattern 6.30AM – 3:30PM or 09-00-1700
Salary: £34,000 per annum + overtime.
As a workshop technician we will rely on your excellent organisational skills to allow you to prioritise workloads, meet deadlines and ensure our service levels are maintained.
Using industry fleet experience to manage expectations, effectively challenge and drive delivery is imperative in this role. We are looking for applicants who are methodical and be able to demonstrate a flexible approach.
The critical nature of GFRS to provide its service to the community is paramount, therefore we operate a 24/365 call out cover, which will form part of a standby rota, where you be able to achieve additional paid standby payments, including opportunity to achieve overtime payments above your basic pay.
You will be expected to work closely with your colleagues, delivering and attending training and management meetings, using your developed communication skills as required. Ideally you will have worked in a large workshop role previously.
Key Responsibilities of a HGV Workshop Mechanic
- Inspect and do preventative maintenance and repair on a wide range of Vehicles.
- Support on inspection tasks to meet the business needs.
- Perform computer-based diagnostics.
- Fabrication and welding to support repairs of fleet vehicles.
- Asses and Pre-plan spare parts required.
- Collect, deliver and recovery vehicles and equipment.
- Maintain paperwork and documents for records.
- Participate in out of hours on call scheme.
- Maintain the health & safety, as well as the tidiness of the workshop.
Key Skills of a HGV Workshop Mechanic
- Must hold a current light Vehicle (cat B) and Large Vehicle (Cat C) License.
- Experience with being in a mechanical environment for heavy or light vehicles.
- Able to fabricate and weld.
- Experience with computerised diagnostics.
- Experience with a mix of fleet or light and heavy vehicles.
- Able to work under pressure.
- Experience working with specialist or emergency vehicles is preferred.
- City & Guilds Motor Vehicle Mechanics Parts 1& 2
- LGV Category C Drivers license
- IRTEC Qualification
- Basic or Advanced Electronics Diagnostic and Repair Qualification.
- Water pump and Hydraulic knowledge,
