CNC Programmer / Setter

Location: Stroud
Hours: Monday to Thursday 7.30am to 4.30pm, Friday 7.30am to 12.30pm
Salary: From £18 per hour, depending on experience
Overtime: Paid at time and a half
Potential second shift: Monday to Thursday, 2pm to midnight, paid at time and a third

Purpose

Working within a precision engineering environment, you will be responsible for programming, setting and operating CNC machinery, producing high-quality components to tight tolerances and ensuring programmes are optimised for efficient production.

Responsibilities:

  • Create, edit and optimise CNC programmes for production.
  • Programme CNC machinery using Fanuc and Mazak controls.
  • Use Fusion 360 for offline programming.
  • Develop programmes from engineering drawings and customer specifications.
  • Select appropriate cutting tools, speeds and feeds.
  • Set and prove out programmes on CNC machines.
  • Make programme adjustments and offsets to achieve required component specifications.
  • Set tooling and workholding for production runs.
  • Manufacture precision components to tight tolerances.
  • Read and interpret detailed engineering drawings.
  • Carry out first-off inspections and make any necessary programme or setting adjustments.
  • Identify opportunities to improve machining processes, cycle times and efficiency.
  • Support the production of complex and high-precision components.
  • Maintain a high standard of quality throughout the machining process.

Skills and Experience:

  • Strong CNC programming experience.
  • Previous experience programming and setting CNC turning and/or milling machines.
  • Experience with Fanuc controls is essential.
  • Mazak control experience would be advantageous.
  • Fusion 360 experience would be advantageous.
  • Strong understanding of CNC machining processes, tooling and cutting parameters.
  • Confident working from engineering drawings.
  • Experience machining components to tight tolerances.
  • Good understanding of precision engineering.
  • Able to programme, set and prove out machines independently.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
