CNC Milling Setter / Operator

Location: Derby (DE21)

Hours: Permanent, 36.5 hours per week

Early Shift:

  • Monday to Thursday: 6:00am – 2:30pm
  • Friday: 6:00am – 10:30am

(Monday to Thursday includes one 10-minute unpaid break and one 20-minute unpaid break.)

We are recruiting for an experienced CNC Milling Setter / Operator to join a growing aerospace manufacturing business in Derby. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled machinist to work within a precision engineering environment, producing high-quality components while developing their skills within a well-established organisation.

Key Responsibilities of a CNC Milling Setter / Operator:

  • Set and operate CNC milling machines to manufacture precision components.
  • Read, interpret and edit CNC programmes where required.
  • Understand CNC code to the level required for machine set-up and operation.
  • Set machine datums, tool lengths and wear offsets to ensure accurate machining.
  • Prepare machines with the correct workholding, tooling and fixtures.
  • Manufacture components in accordance with engineering drawings, job cards and company procedures.
  • Monitor machining operations to ensure quality, efficiency and productivity targets are achieved.
  • Carry out in-process inspections to maintain product quality.
  • Work safely and maintain high housekeeping standards within the manufacturing environment.
  • Support continuous improvement activities where appropriate.

Key Skills of a CNC Milling Setter / Operator:

  • Previous experience working within an aerospace or other high-precision manufacturing environment.
  • At least three years' experience in a similar CNC Milling Setter / Operator role.
  • Experience setting and operating Heidenhain CNC milling machines.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
  • Strong understanding of CNC programming, machine set-up and tooling.
  • Ideally apprentice trained with relevant engineering qualifications.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to producing quality components.
  • A proactive approach with good problem-solving skills.
