Assembly Fitter

Location: Cheltenham, Gloucestershire
Hours:  Fulltime | Permanent
Salary: From £35,700 per annum

Our prestigious client is looking for Assembly Fitters to join their team!

You’ll be responsible for assembling and testing components whilst maintaining a high standard of quality. The ideal candidate will have previous Fitting experience in an Aerospace or Automotive environment and have completed an NVQ Level 3 Mechanical Engineering Apprenticeship.

Please note: You’ll work on a rotating shift pattern, covering dayshifts and nightshifts (which include a premium shift payment).

Key Responsibilities of an Assembly Fitter

  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications to understand assembly requirements.
  • Assembling and testing components using hand tools, power tools, and specialised equipment.
  • Align and fit components accurately, ensuring proper clearances and tolerances are maintained.
  • Maintaining a high standard of quality for each component, adhering to FOD compliance.
  • Perform quality inspections to verify that assemblies meet required standards and specifications.
  • Identify and report any discrepancies or non-conformities in assemblies.
  • Work with engineering and quality teams to resolve issues.
  • Always adhere to safety protocols and procedures, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe handling practices.
  • Maintain a clean and organised work area to ensure safety and efficiency.
  • Participate in training programs to enhance skills and knowledge related to assembly techniques and processes.

Key Skills of an Assembly Fitter

  • Previous Fitting experience ideally in an Aerospace or Automotive environment.
  • NVQ Level 3 Mechanical Engineering Apprenticeship, or equivalent.
  • Ability to follow technical drawings, specs, procedures, and test instructions.
  • Ambition to learn production flow lines and takt times.
  • Knowledge of COSH and flow line methodologies is desirable.
