Location: Stroud, with occasional support required at another facility
Hours: 39 hours per week – Monday to Thursday, 7:30am to 4:00pm; Friday, 7:30am to 3:00pm
Salary: Up to £19.25 per hour, depending on experience
Contract: Full-time

Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Maintenance Engineer to support the continued operation of a busy manufacturing facility. This is a hands-on mechanical role requiring a proactive problem solver who can respond effectively to breakdowns, complete planned maintenance and help ensure plant, machinery and site infrastructure operate safely and reliably.

The successful candidate will also deputise for the Site Services Manager during periods of absence, providing first-line support and direction to the Site Services team.

Key Responsibilities of a Maintenance Engineer

  • Respond to unplanned plant, machinery and infrastructure breakdowns requiring repair or maintenance.
  • Complete planned preventative maintenance across plant and equipment.
  • Carry out and coordinate regular inspections of key plant and site assets, including lifting equipment and fire detection systems.
  • Support machinery installations, plant improvements and infrastructure projects.
  • Diagnose faults and implement effective mechanical solutions.
  • Minimise production downtime by responding efficiently to maintenance requirements.
  • Support continuous improvement projects across the facility.
  • Ensure plant and machinery operate safely, efficiently and reliably.
  • Coordinate external suppliers, subcontractors and regulatory contacts where required.
  • Deputise for the Site Services Manager and provide first-line management support to the Site Services team.

Key Skills of a Maintenance Engineer

Essential

  • A minimum of five years' mechanical or facilities maintenance experience.
  • Strong hands-on mechanical ability and practical fault-finding skills.
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving and identifying suitable solutions.
  • Ability to prioritise workloads and manage conflicting deadlines within a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with confidence communicating at all levels.
  • Good understanding of workplace health and safety requirements.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Able to work independently while contributing effectively as part of a wider operational team.

Desirable

  • Previous maintenance experience within a medium-sized manufacturing organisation.
  • Experience working with surface treatment plant and equipment.
  • A relevant mechanical maintenance qualification.
  • Previous team-leading or supervisory experience.

Additional Information

The Maintenance Engineer will report directly to the Site Services Manager and work closely with the wider UK operational team, suppliers, subcontractors and relevant regulatory authorities.
