Key Responsibilities of a Buyer
- Manage the procurement of materials, components and services in line with production requirements
- Source and negotiate with suppliers to achieve best value in cost, quality and delivery
- Raise and manage purchase orders, ensuring accuracy and timely processing
- Monitor supplier performance and maintain strong working relationships
- Work closely with Production, Engineering and Planning teams to support operational needs
- Review stock levels and support inventory control to avoid shortages or excess stock
- Identify cost-saving opportunities and support continuous improvement initiatives
- Ensure compliance with company purchasing procedures and quality standards
Key Skills of a Buyer
- Previous experience in a Buyer or Procurement role, ideally within a manufacturing or engineering environment
- Strong negotiation and supplier management skills
- Good understanding of MRP/ERP systems
- Commercial awareness with the ability to manage budgets and cost controls
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
- Excellent communication skills and ability to liaise across departments
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
