Location: Heysham
Hours: 08:00 – 17:00 Monday – Friday
Salary: Up to £18.50 per hour (circa £38,000 per annum)
Job Description
An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced MIG Welder / Fabricator to join a well-established manufacturing business specialising in high-quality steel fabrication. This is a permanent, full-time position offering long-term stability, structured training, and genuine progression opportunities. High performers can earn up to £1,000 per week.
You will be part of a skilled fabrication team producing industry-leading bunded fuel tanks, bowsers, and bespoke steel fabrications up to 85,000 litres. Products are manufactured to premium standards for well-known UK and international brands, supplying sectors including mining, construction, agriculture, aviation, and industrial markets.
This role involves the fabrication and manufacture of high-spec diesel and aviation fuel storage equipment, working primarily with carbon steel and occasionally stainless steel.
Key Responsibilities
- Fabricate and weld vessels, pipework, and structural components from engineering drawings
- MIG welding primarily on 3–6mm carbon steel, with some TIG welding on stainless steel
- Carry out cutting, welding, grinding, and finishing to a high standard
- Work with pipe and flange assemblies in both carbon and stainless steel
- Ensure work is completed within standard times and quality requirements
- Maintain high standards of health, safety, and housekeeping within the workshop
- Pass completed work to the next production stage to specification
Key Skills
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in welding and fabrication
- Strong knowledge of MIG welding (TIG experience advantageous)
- Ability to read and interpret design and manufacturing drawings accurately
- Experience welding in all positions
- Use of gas cutting equipment
- Experience using overhead cranes and slinging
- Good understanding of workshop health and safety practices
- Physically fit and able to carry out manual handling tasks
- Basic maths skills
- Good attention to detail and quality-focused mindset
- Able to work independently with minimal supervision
- Strong work ethic and positive, can-do attitude
- Spoken English an advantage
- Live within easy commuting distance of Heysham (LA3)
- Previous welder coding and references required
