Senior Purchaser 

 

Location: Bridgwater, Somerset 

Hours: Full Time | Permanent 
Salary: Competitive Salary 

 

Our client is seeking a Purchaser to support business requirements for direct and indirect materials. Reporting to the Purchasing Manager, this is a hands-on role responsible for sourcing, supplier management, cost control and supporting commercial and operational objectives. 

 

Key Responsibilities of a Senior Purchaser:

  • Source and purchase direct and indirect materials. 

  • Develop purchasing strategies aligned with business needs. 

  • Achieve best-value solutions using a total cost approach. 

  • Support global and low-cost sourcing initiatives. 

  • Negotiate supplier, service, and utility contracts. 

  • Manage internal and supplier-held inventory levels. 

  • Support costing for revenue, capital, and expenditure requests. 

  • Provide purchasing input to support timely customer quotations. 

  • Identify and deliver cost-saving opportunities. 

  • Represent Purchasing in product and review meetings. 

  • Support the Purchasing Manager with projects and initiatives. 

  • Manage supplier quality, cost, and delivery performance. 

  • Develop and maintain dual-source strategies. 

  • Ensure regulatory and reporting submissions are completed on time. 

  • Lead supplier reviews and improvement activities. 

  • Identify and implement process efficiencies within Purchasing. 

 

Key Skills of a Senior Purchaser:

  • Proven experience in procurement and supplier management. 

  • Strong negotiation and commercial skills. 

  • Confident using Microsoft Office and reporting tools. 

  • Experience working with ERP systems. 

  • Strong analytical and numerical ability. 

  • Highly organised with strong attention to detail. 

  • Able to work under pressure and meet deadlines. 

  • Proactive, self-motivated, and able to use initiative. 

  • Professional communicator with strong stakeholder skills. 

  • Creative problem-solver with a results-focused mindset. 

  • Reliable, trustworthy, and committed to delivering objectives.
