Proposals Engineer

Location: Stroud
Hours: Full time, permanent
Salary: £32,000 – £35,000

Creating quotations and bid packages, the role is responsible for ensuring financial and technical compliance with customer requirements. Working closely with the technical team for the preparation of drawings, BOM’s and models for proposal packages. Co-ordinating with all relevant stakeholders, to obtain and analyse inputs to ensure commercial accuracy of quotations.

Key Responsibilities of a Proposals Engineer:

• Prepare and manage customer enquiries and quotations using Visual Manufacturing, MS Office, and electronic systems.
• Review and interpret customer enquiries to ensure technical and commercial compliance.
• Maintain the Quotation Register, file structures, and documentation including specifications and clarification logs within DDM.
• Organise and co-ordinate RFQ-related meetings, liaising with stakeholders as required.
• Create robust cost models based on various inputs, ensuring accuracy and competitiveness.
• Ensure compliance with commercial processes and obtain required approvals for proposal submissions.
• Support price list creation and maintenance where appropriate.
• Provide commercial guidance including value engineering, upselling opportunities, and cost/price optimisation.
• Engage with project teams on margin reviews where necessary.
• Assist with conference calls and customer meetings at both company and client facilities.
• Review purchase orders against quotations, supporting contractual reviews and participation in contract review/kick-off meetings.

Key Skills of a Proposals Engineer:

• Proven technical bid writing experience.
• Strong commercial awareness with cost and data analysis skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel and general MS Office applications.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Desired Skills:

• Knowledge of the oil & gas industry.
• Project management capability.
• Background in mechanical engineering.
