Machinist/Setter Operator

Location: Quedgeley, Gloucestershire
Hours: Full time | 37.5 hours per week | 07:00am to 15:00pm Monday to Friday, with a 30-minute lunch break
 £17.00 per hour

Our client is looking for a Machinist/Setter Operator to join their team!

You will be responsible for setting up and operating manual lathes and milling machines, as well as handling, loading, and setting fixture plates and support jigs onto 3-axis and 5-axis machines in a one-off or low batch machining environment.

Key Responsibilities of a Machinist/Setter Operator

  • Set up and operate CNC milling machines.
  • Work to tight machining tolerances and thoroughly check own work.
  • Perform in-process batch inspection of CNC machined parts.
  • Work to 2D drawings and job specifications with the minimum of supervision.
  • Handle, load, and set fixture plates and support jigs onto 3-axis and 5-axis machines.

Key Skills of a Machinist/Setter Operator

  • Recognised engineering qualification or relevant experience.
  • Ability to work on own initiative in a machine shop environment.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting 2D machining drawings and 3D CAD models, including tolerance and surface finish specifications.
  • Experience in hand finishing of metal components, bench fitting, hand-tapping, and deburring.
  • Use of verniers for accurate measurements.
  • Good understanding of manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings.
  • Experience in setting and operating manual lathe and milling machine.
