JOB TITLE:                      Production Manager

DEPARTMENT:                 Production

RESPONSIBLE TO:          Technical and Quality Director

RESPONSIBLE FOR:        Team Leaders & Production Staff.


To manage shop floor staff activities with the aim of producing and despatching goods within the required quality, time and cost constraints.

To maintain quality, health & safety and environmental standards on the shop floor in accordance with the company’s management systems.

To ensure that shop floor personnel carry out their tasks in a safe manner, in accordance with their job descriptions and to company health and safety policies and procedures; and that they have the appropriate level of skill for the task that they are performing.

The Production Manager’s performance will be measured by factors such as on-time delivery, overall absenteeism, throughput, overtime expenditure and quality. The values of the KPIs will be agreed with the Technical & Quality Director.


  • Report to the senior management meeting monthly.
  • Report monthly production figures.
  • Maintain overall discipline.
  • Monitor and feed back performance to your team.
  • Identify training needs for both you and your staff.
  • Load work stations and apportion staff, in the most efficient manner, in order to achieve start and end dates provided to you by the planning department.
  • Organise and apportion overtime and nightshift work.
  • Organise nightshift rotas.
  • Approve holidays.
  • Approve all pre-absence requests.
  • Arrange supervision of weekend work.
  • Be available for nightshift queries.
  • Coordinate nonstandard production activities which may be difficult to attribute to a specific job function.
  • Carry out appraisals
  • Review and agree personal development objectives annually with your line manager.
  • Provide direction.
  • Manage business performance.
  • Manage individual performance including:
    • Maintain and monitor good timekeeping.
    • Nurture loyalty.
    • Encourage development.
    • Develop team work.
  • Encourage continuous improvement.
  • Maintain clean working conditions.
  • Ensure that production documents are available at work stations.
  • Ensure that work is performed in a safe manner.
  • Resolve production-related problems as required.
  • Arrange inspection (liaise with inspector).
  • Arrange NDT as necessary via the respective project manager.
  • Issue wire/electrodes and consumables from main stores.
  • Carry out production work as necessary.

This is a full time permanent role for which a competitive salary will be offered dependent on experience
